Twist of Fate

Bearing heavy news of utmost sadness, I beckoned Romeo towards me. Words escaped from my lips:

'A gentler judgment vanished° from his lips—
Not body’s death, but body’s banishment.'
'Here from Verona art thou banishèd.
Be patient, for the world is broad and wide.'

It was torment to see the horror and pain on the boy's face. The thought of being exiled out of this city of beauty was pure grief for the one who lived within its city walls for as long as one can remember. For Romeo, death was better or even preferable than leaving his home and his true love.

My words of comfort were useless against his rants of hurt and exile and banishment. Making him realize that the noble Prince was being merciful and sparing his life was hopeless. But it is understandable, leaving your home, family, love behind is a truly a difficult decision. Pity on the the poor boy....

This unexpected twist of events is enough to push away all thoughts of reuniting the two families and regaining peace for Verona. For better or worse, at least the word of the newlyweds hasn't spread yet, but no one knows how things will end...
